Animatronic Halloween Ghost Prop Kit

Kit without Arduino Uno

Adapted from a fun project found in an older issue Nuts and Volts magazine, this fun Halloween prop is sure to delight your trick-or-treaters. Of course you can make something other than a ghost, but the two servos will provide two points of motion for your character.

The sample code provided sets the trigger distance at three feet and when an object comes closer than the set distance, the ghost's arms quickly move to reveal its beady eyes. You can add LEDs or a speaker to make it even more spooky or interactive. You can even re-use the components for other holiday automated props. Check out the step-by-step guide on our Workshop page.

This is an alternate to the full kit if you already have an Arduino Uno.

What You'll Need

• Arduino Uno
• USB-A to USB-B cable for Arduino Uno
• Computer with latest Arduino IDE and ultrasonic library (zip download)
• White paper, cardboard or poster board
• Black marker
• Scissors and/or hobby knife
• Tape and/or hot glue
